Effingham County selected Lott+Barber to master plan and design their new judicial complex. The master plan included alternate site analysis, future phase planning and planning for restoration of the original courthouse. The final plan includes creation of a downtown square to serve as the new symbolic center for Effingham County government.Port Wentworth, Georgia
The new Judicial Complex will serve as the home for the County’s courtrooms, judicial support functions, and offices for Superior and Magistrate Judges. The facility is located adjacent to the original historic courthouse and draws many architectural cues from this significant building. The building’s site is part of the Lott+Barber master plan for the County facilities in Springfield, Georgia that includes both the new and old courthouses, a memorial park, and other ancillary support buildings.
The exterior of the building uses stone, brick, and glass in a design reflecting the dignity of the courts and the predominate civic architecture southeast Georgia. The building faces the downtown park containing monuments to Effingham County’s past veterans as well as a community time capsule. The opposite side of the building faces the major downtown thoroughfare of Springfield and, when completed, will be the largest structure in that area.
