Lott + Barber is a member of the consultant team with RS&H working with the Liberty Consolidated Planning Commission (LCPC) for a three-year general planning consultant contract. The Georgia Engineer Gateway Sector Plan Preserves Georgia Coast, Improves Mobility in Liberty County
The first task under this contract was the development of a gateway sector plan, overlay district, and design guidelines for the area around the I-95/U.S. Highway 84 interchange in Midway, Georgia. This currently rural area is expected to double in population and employment based on developments already planned for the area. The Gateway Sector Plan is being developed to address the impacts of growth on the existing transportation infrastructure, as well as on the character of the community. A major part of the plan was the development of design guidelines, codified in ordinance, to maintain the coastal character of the area. These guidelines provide a template for the look and form of the development and include requirements for connectivity, access management, and the provision of alternative transportation.
The overlay district for this 10,000+ acre area included three tiers of regulation. The use of icons for each tier of regulations, combined with simple graphics, resulted in a user-friendly, easy-to-understand document.
