GEORGIA SOUTHERN UNIVERSITY - SCIENCE AND NURSING BUILDING
Statesboro, Georgia

Size: 123,000 square feet
Construction cost: $19 million

This new building houses GSU's Chemistry and Nursing Departments. The design separates the building into two parts, a square four story building (nursing) and a long rectangular three story building (chemistry).

The building contains major classroom spaces, general chemistry labs, specialized nursing and chemistry labs, and administrative offices.

The exterior design reflects the site issues present. The front works in concert with the adjacent College of Education building to form the new pedestrian gateway to the campus. The north elevation faces the main pedestrian link to the center of campus and features the main ceremonial entrance, secondary entrance and glass internal corridor.

Opening the inside to the passers-by was important to the building users. The south and east elevations face the major wetlands areas on campus. This provides office views from the upper floors as well as outdoor plaza space adjacent to such spaces as the 150 seat auditorium and the coffee shop.
