SEA ISLAND BANK - DOWNTOWN BRANCH
Savannah, Georgia

Size: 6,193 square feet (enclosed) / 1,769 square feet (drive)
Construction Cost: $916,000

Sea Island Bank is headquartered is in Statesboro, Georgia. Recently, they decided to expand their services into the Savannah area and were looking for a downtown location which would provide walk-in banking as well as drive through service.

Lott + Barber Architects was commissioned to design the downtown branch in the (former) Standard Oil Building built in 1924. This building, on the corner of President and Drayton Streets, gave Sea Island Bank a high visibility location with plenty of room for their space needs as well as a hard to come by drive through opportunity.

The design features two drive-through lanes, which return the porte-cochere to its original historic use. A nine foot by thirty foot teller addition was added to the non-historic east side of the porte-cochere. The northwest corner of the porte-cochere was built directly on top of the existing brick masonry basement walls and foundations of a grocery store that occupied the site prior to the construction of the Standard Oil Building. These brick walls and the stone steps that provided street access to the grocery store basement are still visible in the training room today.

The teller addition to the building is constructed with a cast stone base that matches the height and color of the granite base on the main building. The exterior is clad in a cultured stone that closely resembles the original gray terra cotta panels on the building. A traditional wrought iron railing was added to complete the addition. The windows in the addition use a historic profile to closely match the existing windows.
